Description
SO SORRY (now please watch) starts from an observation: the apology videos circulating on social media follow recurring codes. Two main strategies stand out. Some adopt the posture of remorse, eyes brimming; others deny, take offence, counter-attack. The tones differ, but the aim remains the same: staying in control of the narrative.
Working from a corpus of viral videos, the piece dissects the words chosen, the vocal modulations, the postures and body dynamics, the self-touching gestures, the unwavering gaze into the camera, the frozen foreheads, the manufactured tears, the sudden high-pitched breaks in the voice, the moments when pain is recentred on the self. Every detail becomes raw material.
The piece never quotes these videos directly, it extracts their structures. The performers replay fragments, repeat them, slow them down, amplify them. The stage becomes a living interface: play, pause, rewind, slow motion. The rhythm is that of the digital feed (fast, saturated, chaotic) transposed into bodies.
Through exaggeration and the grotesque, the performance brings to light what these public apologies seek to conceal: their construction.
