Emilio Artessero Quesada
He has danced in numerous companies in Paris, Stockholm and Geneva. In 1990 he founded the company Ida y Vuelta with which he produced a large number of shows. In parallel to his activities as a dancer, Emilio has been teaching contemporary dance for 35 years in a large number of private dance schools in Geneva as well as at the Hautes Ecoles. He also collaborates with directors on the training of actors and is part of an improvisation collective bringing together dancers and musicians, with whom he performs regularly. From 1990 to 2017 he co-managed a space devoted to theatrical and choreographic practice and research. He is a founding member and was on the committee of the Association les Rencontres Professionnelles de Danses – Geneva. He was a consultant to the Department of Public Education of Geneva for the reflection on the curriculum of the Federal Certificate of Capacity/Professional Artistic Maturity of dancer-performer in contemporary dance and was part of the specific commission in charge of following the development of this pilot project.
From 2015 to 2018 was part of the commission in charge of the organisation of continuing education for teachers for the CEGM (Confédération des Ecoles Genevoises de Musique). Since 2017, she has been organizing and leading a summer research laboratory with guest artists in the south of Spain.

MATERIA PRIMA – ATMO
For this performance, Materia Prima collaborates with the electroacoustic duo ATMO at the Ariana Museum as part of the Danse(in) project in October and November. This ambitious programme brings together professional artists, migrants and local amateurs for creative workshops.
Materia Prima ATMO is based on the resonances created by movement, sound and the architecture of the space. These resonances, like haikus, give form to a multitude of landscapes celebrating the evanescence of things and are organised in such a way as to create an entity that could be defined as a dance concert with the ATMO duo.
This collective has performed on several occasions in venues subsidised by the City of Geneva and we are very happy to count the Ariana Museum among our partners to date. We will present this creation in the museum’s premises, depending on the sanitary conditions in place.

Materia Prima likes to associate the architecture of places and the spectators to the creative process of their actions. This performance will resonate metaphorically with the creation of a ceramic where the interaction of the elements, the body and the concept result in an artistic object with a touch of randomness.

Past
MATERIA PRIMA
After years of training, practice and exploration in various fields of dance and music, the artists in this collective have decided to come together to explore and build a common language whose raw material is improvisation.
Spontaneous creation is an exceptionally difficult and precise technique, very different from the generalized idea of performing in public. It requires great skill on the part of the actors and requires specific training.
Materia Prima’s performances are based on the resonances created by movement, sound and the architecture of the space. These resonances, like haikus, give form to a multitude of landscapes celebrating the evanescence of things and are organised in such a way as to create an entity that could be defined as a danced concert.

Based on the constraints set before each performance, we enter into the unexpected. These constraints are the red thread that guides us through a game of making, undoing, letting go, of geometric, sound, imaginary, anatomical and emotional spaces. They are the foundations allowing us to explore an infinite number of probabilities.
During the performance, the bodies go through a multitude of opportunities made of everyday or abstract gestures; of immediate choices put forward as materials, forces, purely bodily and sonic structures. Sounds and movements can be completely independent of the actions of others, or they can resonate, but never in a spirit of image production, of capture.
Performed at Maison de quartier de la Jonction, Geneva : 24, 25, 26 January 2019
