I MÍSSIL
Not only language—gestures precede us too. Barely has our socialization begun and we are already inserted into its systems of favors and graces, of give-and-take. We are born, as Adrienne Rich wrote, “in the midst of the difficult motion, / what is already sounding when we are born” — inside codes that carry, at once, the desire for contact and the violence of their forms; the dream of a common language and the impossibility of its reaching the other without first having been fired by someone, from somewhere, in the name of something.

The hat tipped in respect was already there. The handshake was already there. The goodbye with an outstretched hand, the heart carved into a tree trunk—already there. It is within this condition—and not in spite of it—that I Míssil, a new creation by Improvável Produções, leads us.
A project-projectile: echoing the wordplay proposed by artist Linn da Quebrada, the title I Míssil overlays the English phrase I miss you with the image of a missile. Longing and violence in the same message. This paradox is not a pun; it is the structure of the work. And the projectile, like a love letter, also has a sender and a recipient.

With a repertoire that weaves together dances, music, voices, and ways of thinking from different times and places, Improvável affirms contemporary dance as an expanded field of coexistence and critical thought.
