Opus Zéro is a concert-performance that gives discarded, broken and recycled musical instruments a new life as sound and visual sculptures. Led by composer Mathieu Corajod, with performer Violaine Gestalder, visual artist Bérangère Goossens and electronic musician Anton Kiefer, the project blends composition, improvisation and visual art. A poetic exploration of recycling, transformation and the dialogue between music, sculpture and technology.
Bio
Composer, choreographer, and director, Mathieu Corajod (1989, CH/FR) works with instruments, voice, body, space, and electronics. After studying at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB), the University of Bern, and IRCAM (Cursus 18-19), he founded his own interdisciplinary ensemble, Compagnie Mixt Forma, which performed at the Grande Salle of the Centre Pompidou as part of the Manifeste Festival in Paris. In 2022 he composed and directed his first opera, commissioned by the Opéra national de Lorraine and the Musica festival. He is a recipient of the Beaumarchais-SACD dance commission for emerging choreographers. His musical works have been commissioned and performed by ensembles such as Ensemble Divertimento, Ensemble Adapter, Ensemble Interface, soyuz21, the Bern Chamber Orchestra, Duo Eventuell and Duo Alto. His electronic works have been presented at ICST (Zurich), IRCAM (Paris) and SAT (Montreal). He develops a choreographic language in pieces like Ça va bien avec comment tu vis, Axes, Lazzi du nez and Anima. He co-founded the composer collective CUE with Giulia Lorusso and Giovanni Montianni. Since 2015 he has held various positions at the Bern University of the Arts; as a PhD candidate at the University of Geneva he is dedicating his thesis to the work of composer and linguist Hans Wüthrich.
