Louis Matute IVtet - Ephemeral Music
Louis Matute returns to the Swiss Cultural Centre with a new quartet project, premiering here ahead of a forthcoming tour. Inspired by the improvised scenes of Los Angeles and Chicago, this new project brings together previously unperformed compositions in which improvisation takes centre stage. Blending avant-garde jazz, ambient and krautrock, the guitarist pursues an open-ended musical exploration, fuelled by his love of collective forms. A concert offering a glimpse into a repertoire still taking shape.

Since his debut album, Louis Matute has established himself as one of the most inspiring jazz musicians on the European scene. At the helm of his Large Ensemble, he presents compositions that are open to the world, in which every note delineates the boundaries of his imaginary jazz universe, deeply rooted between Europe and Latin America. Having travelled through Spain, Cuba, Costa Rica, Honduras and, most recently, Brazil, Louis Matute draws living inspiration from his encounters. He crafts a free, incandescent and deeply personal form of jazz, blending organic groove, sun-drenched melodies, analogue textures, Caribbean accents and poetic flights of fancy.
